Welcome to For Wings & Roots!
I first created this space in July, 2015 as an online space to celebrate all of the many directions that my life as a twenty-something moves in. It was also started during the time that my fiancé, Matt, and I bought our first home together and began the never-ending process of fixing it up. Buying my first home triggered many emotions for me, one of which is the constant wrestling of what home really means to me. As a South African living in Lincolnshire, I long for home and for my South African roots; to be in a place where I share a common history and culture with people. But simultaneously, I love the freedom that I have found in another country and in embracing the opportunities and adventures that come my way. This blog then is a space for the two to exist simultaneously; a place to celebrate my wings whilst not forgetting my roots.
Nearly two years on, and I am refreshing and redefining what For Wings and Roots is and the type of content that I want to share here. FWR is an online space that reflects who I am and what I love; people, food, the outdoors, soulfulness, love and joy. Here content is not bound to a niche but instead acts as a vessel to discuss issues close to my heart like veganism and the desire for deeper connection and empathy for people across all works of life. FWR showcases beauty through showcasing local creators and those that inspire me.
It’s an open, authentic and honest space to share my own struggles and anxieties, as well as my happiness, as a navigate being a twenty-something. Here I want to share the words that are on my heart, and the sights before my eyes. A place to talk about encouraging living in the moment and being intentional day by day.
I hope you’ll enjoy walking with me through this journey.
